Everyone knows that snacking moment — when hunger or boredom hits, and you’re stuck debating between the crunchy carrots or the tempting pretzels. But there’s a different type of snacking entering the room: Exercise Snacking.
Now before you roll your eyes, you can still grab those pretzels. Just, pro tip: pair them with a macro mix of protein and healthy fat, like hummus, to set yourself up for success (this goes for any snack, for that matter).
Think:
Apples and Nut Butter
Cottage Cheese with Berries and Honey
Jerky, Dried Fruit, and Almonds
But food aside… and stay with us here…the concept is simple: if you don’t have time for a full workout (or even if you do), you certainly have time for an “exercise snack”. If you have a few minutes between meetings or are waiting in your car for your kid to finish soccer practice, get up and do a set (or 2 or 3) of anything… air squats, pushups, a 5 minute jog. The concept is to move, stimulate your muscles, and get your endorphins flowing in those “in-between” moments of your life.
Short bouts of movement (especially when paired with looking away from a screen) help reset eye strain, improve blood flow to the brain, and increase alertness. Research shows that even just a few minutes of physical activity can improve focus, reduce anxiety, and counteract the effects of prolonged sitting.
Each week we’ll be sharing a new simple exercise that you can do anytime, anywhere. The point is to fit in however many reps you can, whenever you can, throughout the day - effectively living up to its name as you snack your way to strength.
Our new exercise snacking series will be shared on Instagram so don’t forget to FOLLOW US HERE! We’ll provide the grocery list each week, and you'll do the snacking ;)
